Supplying omitted status of claims

In filing a preliminary amendment to add new claims, I unintentionally
omitted the status of the existing claims, and today I received an
office action instructing to supply the missing information.

I spoke to an officer at the USPTO and was advised to write something
to the effect that I am responding to the office action of such and
such date, and that claims x1-x2 are canceled, and claims y1-y2 (the
remaining active claims) are presented for examination, which I think
would be adequate to address the issue.

However, I am wondering if it should be "are" or "are being" before
the "canceled" and "presented for examination," or is this immaterial?
