Data Bridging Testing Process

by rmlamont <ryan.lamontagne@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Feb 13, 2008 at 10:20 AM

Hi,

I have a data conversion testing question.

Project Background
The project consists of building a new website to replace the old
one. The old is still in production up and running. The new site is
being built in parallel. The old site is built in a SQL Server
and .NET environment. The new site is Oracle/Java.

Data Background
The data in the old database consists of approx 20,000 users with a
lot of financial information. This information will be bridged over
to the new Oracle dB then presented via the new site.

Testing Question
What is the best way to test the data bridging on the front end
without automating the process of logging in as each user to make sure
they have the same information ($$$ values, banking, credit cards,
etc...) on the new site as they do the old site? My funding for an
automation resource has been pulled! The table structures in Oracle
are completely different from the table structures in the old dB.

I am currently trying to logically group all 20,000 users into
profiles/categories/groups or whatever so I can select only a ****tion
from each one to ensure the front end displays the information
properly, but I am not sure this is the best approach, plus it's
taking hrs of analysis work because the financial data for each user
is much more complex than the attributes I referenced above.

We are in the process of hiring an informatica resource to take care
of the table mapping.

Any help on how to test this type of process is greatly appreciated.
Please let me know if you need additional information.

Thanks
