BSI have finally published the second part of their business
continuity management (BCM) standard, BS25999, about a year after the
first part appeared (http://www.25999.info).
BS 25999 is the first serious international standard for business
continuity, and is related to the IS standard ISO 27002.
Part 1 was a code of practice, which detailed a series of
recommendations for business continuity management. Part 2, however is
the 'specification', which do***ents the requirements for a BCMS
(business continuity management system). It is this second part
against which certification schemes will be launched.
This is a significant development, as the specification provides a
basis for benchmarking, as well as potential market ladvantage for
those organizations which can demonstrate compliance through their
certification.
Both parts of the BS 25999 standard can now be obtained from either
BSI's online source Standards Direct (http://
pas56.standardsdirect.org) or with the BS 25999 Toolkit (http://www.
25999continuity.com).
