I am afraid that I don't have much to add, but two small thoughts:
Is there some regional development agency that could help you network to
local entrepreneurs? After all, you may be able to collect data that's
useful to both you and them. They may also already have useful data.
Are there other networking things you could use? Investment clubs formed
by angels (who might be interested in your work)? Local entrepreneur
clubs normally have useful stuff too - for instance, where I last
worked, Columbus, OH, used to have a thing where, "The program will
bring technology focused entrepreneurs together at downtown venues on
the third Tuesday of each month." Might save you some effort.
Good luck, anyway.
