I am an entrepreneur that has had a web/voice technology (web
development/ phone software (ivr) and st/com) firm for close to seven
years and am looking for full-time and or consulting work - due to
slowdown in work and the economy.
As I contemplated getting a job it occured to me I wasn't necessarily
sure 1) how to distill all the skillsets I have had to develop as the
founder/ceo/chief bottlewasher of my own firm 2) what job I wanted to
seek that would translate my dogged years of experience into the
utmost value for a future employer.
Though I am extremely proud to have had a small business that has
emplyed people, and survived long past the statisical death of 70% of
businesses - my weaknesses I would say as I seek these answers and
future work is that my "experience" is more intangible in that I
founded my business one year out of college and didn't spend 10 plus
years in an industry or developing a skillset that I can fall back
into now. I have directed work and overseen work rather than done it
myself etc.
What I do think I have that matches up directly with a job position is
project management experience (managed over 100 development projects),
client management experience (an obvious must when building a
business), business development experience (we have never had fully
dedicated sales so I handled that and recruited the people that did
help), and operations running the business up to now.
So I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this (job roles that
would make good fits). And if any suggested company roles lended
themselves more to consulting than others. Much thanks-
