Reasonable analysis, but since the electorate is not rational, the data
does not matter, and wont effect policy.

Remember- "if you owe the bank a thousand you have a problem; if you owe
the bank a million, the bank has a problem."? The US owes the global
financial market 9 trillion in just the national debt, never mind what
it spends to keep the whole game going.

What happens to the Asian dragon economies if the USA quits buying all
the **** they make? The USA is still a major food supplier and can feed
its own population without the money from global trade. That is, if it
can maintain the complex infrastructure agribusiness needs.

Part of that infrastructure is the banks who front the money to buy the
seed, fertilizer, and tractor fuel. If the banks fold because of global
financial panic, then the proverbial schitt will hit the fan here too.

My Ozark hillbilly friends have been telling me for years that we are at
that awkward time when it is too late for them to fix things, but still
too early to drag the bastards out to be shot. Never before has it
looked like the awkward time is so nearly over.
