Dear all,
Having recently thought of a career change, I would like to ask for a
couple of suggestions about getting a job in management consulting.
Please feel free to give any inputs. They are greatly appreciated.
I am Thai who has lived in England for almost 10 years since I came to
this country to pursue my master. At the moment, I hold a Ph.D. in
Economics and work as a lecturer in a university in England. I am 34
years old and have worked in various industries, including banking
(foreign exchange dealer), airline (cabin crew), and marketing
research (statistical analyst). I have sound understanding of
quantitative analysis, money and banking, and finance, as I have
taught these subjects for the past few years.
I am thinking of moving back to Thailand and pursuing my career in
management consulting. I have gone through a few books that explain
the industry and saw that most candidates for the jobs hold an MBA or
other related business discipline. I also feel that young people have
a much better chance of getting the jobs. At the moment I am teaching
myself other business related subjects, e.g., marketing, strategy, and
etc.
My questions are: How else do I get myself up to speed so I can
compete with other candidates? What are the chances that I get myself
hired by top consulting firms? And, am I too old for the job?
Thank you all for any inputs.
Thanaset
