new to group, fairly new to consulting

by "Esp" <saintpaulproductions@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Feb 7, 2007 at 05:31 PM

Hello all,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I own and operate a small arts based
consulting firm. I started doing part time consulting for non-profit
501c-3
orgs back in 2003. I work primarily with non profits, private schools and
public charter schools. I provide inner city kids 6-12th grade) with an
attractive distraction to standing on the corner, selling drugs and getting
into trouble. I teach them how to compose music using today's trendy
hip-hop technology and beats, in a positive peaceful environment. It's
really fun, and most of all I love working with kids.

Right now I'm only doing things after-school and since I'm a 1 man
operation, I can only work for 10 hours per week after-school. I need to
hire more talented artists like myself (hopefully very soon) so that I can
penetrate into more markets and earn more $$. I think I have a solid
plan,
but I could use some solid advice from a few experts out there who have
been
doing consulting for awhile.

In addition to above, I just encountered another part-time op****tunity,
which would take my business from part time to full time. The only deal
is
that they aren't offering quite as much per hour than the others. Most
schools I work for hire me for 4 hours per week. This op****tunity is for
20
hours per week, at approx 1/3 my normal rate. Are there pros and cons to
getting hired as an employee vs. a consultant? I am aware that there are
no
benefits (as of yet) I'm wondering should I go for it and take the risk
of
making something rather than nothing? BTW let me add that I also work p/t
graveyard ****ft...which sucks but it pays the bills.

please ask as many questions as you'd like....I'm eager to find out what
your responses may be.
