I'm just wondering where the term "white paper" came from, and exactly what
makes this kind of do***ent different from an "application note",
"technical
re****t", "case study", etc. Or does it encompass these, too? I have seen
the term more and more in the last few years.
Never having had it explained to me, I would bet money that it is a
marketing term for any kind of quasi-scientific do***ent that can be used
to
sell a product.
Also, what is the "old school" name for "white paper?" For example, we
used
to talk about "problems". Now it's "challenges." Personally I prefer the
term "f*** up", as it seems to emphasize the relation****p between the
person
who made the lapse in judgment and his future employment status. (For
example, between these two ... "Joe failed to meet a challenge." Or...
"Joe
f***ed up". )
Using the same reasoning, which one sounds more scientific.... "Here is a
white paper for your files." Or..... "Here is a bunch of crap I wrote up
over a pitcher of beer-- it's mainly lies and advertising BS."
