I'm starting an online business. It is just at the very start and I
don't know how much money can produce me yet, but it may promise well.
For the moment I'm accepting payments through PayPal and NOCHEX, that
do not require an online merchant account. But they have their own
drawbacks: NOCHEX doesn't allow people to send more than £100 in one
go without having the customer signing up for an account, and PayPal
after a bit stops the customer sending any more money from a credit
card unless they sign up. I've found out this drive a small ****tion
of customers away. Also, neither of them allow to accept transaction
by telephone.
So, I'm starting looking around, and I though about obtaining a
merchant account from WorldPay (or other similar).
The question is: I live in the UK and I'm at the moment in receipt of
Income Sup****t, because of some short term health problems concerning
my depression. I wouldn't want to sign out yet as my business is
still in embryo, so do you think that having an online merchant
account with WorldPay (or with any other one for it may matter) would
make me visible to Inland Revenue and likely the government to find
out that I'm doing a benefit fraud?
I'd be happy to pay taxes in the future, if the business does well,
but not yet, as right now I can't afford to pay my rent.
