I would strongly recommend against using godaddy for your email. They
are worse than AOL ever was in regards to blocking email for no valid
reason.
Also, just because you might use someone else for hosting, it doesn't
mean you need to transfer the domain, you just update the name server
information. If you try to transfer your domain before I think it is 60
days, you will lose the 1 year registration you would normally get for
transferring a domain name.
Many registrars these days will even prevent a transfer within this time
period.
And in regards to the free services included with your domain name
registration with godaddy, be aware that they put ads on your site if
you use those 'free' services. As long as you are aware of that, no
problem, but make sure you read the terms of service very carefully first.
