Your only recourse, (except for extraordinary cir***stances such as
lack of proper notice, negligence, fraud, etc), is to offer to buy the
domain name from the new registrant.
You probably feel bad about losing the domain name -- but the domain
name did expire, without your renewing it.
The new registrant is *not* the bad guy. :-|
