Letter.
I would like to place on record that I met with you yesterday over the
following two issues:
The quality of evidence which the Fund used in reaching crucial decisions,
and that I perceived serious inconsistencies in the judging of the quality
of evidence.
That it was necessary for me to see a referring doctor to refer me for
examination, and that I considered it to be out of all pro****tion that my
referring doctor was seriously threatened by the Fund.
I further referred to a number of similar issues. I also expressed concern
that the Fund informed me that I was being investigated for fraud. I can
see
no grounds for this at all. As a matter of standard procedure I now need
to
re****t this to our Church executive.
I have decided that I trust my judgement on the moral issues involved, and
on careful reflection, I feel that the Fund did not answer these. Further,
when I said that I was concerned that my attorney told me not to raise
these
issues because officers of the Fund have "power" to act vindictively - and
I
repeated this to you - you would not respond at all. A simple assurance
would have been nice.
I appreciate the off-the-cuff judgements you made about my injuries, for
instance that the bump you received in rugby was the same as the injury to
my cheek, but I do have some doubts about their soundness.
I understand that the Fund needs to maintain high standards of evidence,
but
this should not be at the expense of reasonableness, and respect, and
sensitivity, and an eye for larger truth. Instead, an adverserial spirit
seems to prevail throughout, without the desire to seek real and helpful
solutions. If there is anything that you remember differently about the
above, do let me know.
Yours sincerely,
Rev. Thomas Scarborough.

Good morning Reverend
I refer to this e-mail and your correspondence directed to Mr Werner since
our meeting on Monday.
I requested your attorney via his secretary on Monday, 18/10/2004 to
contact
me in order to arrange a meeting as suggested by Mr Werner on Monday. Mr
Pienaar's secretary advised that he will only be back in the office today.
I
confirm that I will follow up on my request of Monday with Mr Pienaar.
