Because there aren't enough criminals, and also because those houses are
protected by their anonymity (i.e., they're freeloaders - they are
protected by people who *are* armed, because criminals don't know which
house is unprotected).

No, I don't. You believe you are protected by the police. That's exactly
the function that private security agencies would take over, only they
would have a lot more incentive to actually protect you. So your agency
fee would go a lot farther than your tax dollar.

Since you put it that way, the reason it does not appeal to you is that
you are ignorant. I don't know if that's actually true, but you're
