| Does a patient have any recourse if their medical insurance claims the
fee
| for recent Mohs surgery for skin cancer was $600 above what is
considered
| "reasonable and customary" for my region (San Diego)?
|
| If I have no option but to pay I can grudgingly accept this. But not
before
| doing a little research.
|
| Don't some medical insurance companies offer an op****tunity to appeal?
|
| Or should one try to negotiate with the provider (surgeon-hospital)?
|
| Any other ideas?
Might check on the possibility of 'down coding' on the part of the
insurance
company AND up coding on the part of the provider.
Also discuss the matter with your doc, we had a similar problem years back
and found that the specific procedure was only offered in two facilities
800
miles apart both had fees that were significantly higher than the
insurance
company customary and reasonable.
