One reason for the delay may be best Buy's pretty good "Price
Matching/Price Guarantee" policy. This link is probably too long to click
but go to Best Buy's web site, click on Customer Service, click on
Policies,
click on Price Matching if this doesn't work for you:

<http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=page&entryURLType=&entryURLID=&categoryId=cat10011&contentId=1043363603302&id=cat12098>

Flagstaff AZ has only had a Best Buy store for a few months and I think
I've
only bought three things there. But with their nearly weekly sales flyers,

twice I've seen the item I bought go on sale within the price match
guarantee period. By returning to the store with my original receipt and
the
current sales flyer, they credit my original purchase price including
sales
tax, then charge me the new sales price plus tax.

If Best Buy offered rewards certificates too quickly, they'd be issuing
rewards for the higher first sales price. Given the frequency with which
this has occurred with me, I'd guess Best Buy needs to wait until after
their Price Match guarantee expires, then start the rewards process and
mailings. At least we can monitor our rewards status online.

Regarding the Price Match policy, I'm glad it's there even though it does
require a second trip to the store to get the credit. The paperwork is
really painless. But honestly, life would be so much simpler if they
simply
lowered their original prices and didn't feel the need to have "sales" all

the time.
