Do these models act as a heat pump when used to heat a room? eg does the 
outdoor fan run?

I thought that they just had a heating element that worked with the 
"room fan" to produce a rather large fan heater - with 1kW of 
electricity producing ~1kW of room heat.

That seems to be bourne out by the B rating spec on heating as well as 
cooling - if they were >100% efficient (ie acting as a heat pump and 
producing >1kW heat output for each 1kW of electricity used) you would 
expect an A+ rating..
