Re: Fuel Prices - Could we make a difference?

I have several iniitial thoughts,

1) The Government takes the biggest slice of the price of a litre of fuel,
therefore any boycott would result in a short-fall in income, the solution
would be to increase other taxes or borrow more money, increasing taxes in
the future.

2) The Oil companies make the vast majority of their profits from
refining,
not retail sales, it would probably hurt Esso more to stop buying
sandwiches
at garages.

3) Fuel is priced "locally", it seems to depend on local competition.

4) Do you boycott Tesco who I think sell Esso petrol under their own
brand?

It sounds like a good idea to the naive, but frankly the idea lacks any
serious thought.
