Our house is in a wooded neighborhood near Boston. It is built on a
slab. It was treated for termites more than fifteen years ago. Since
then, we have been paying for an annual contract, which says they will
spot treat any place they find termite activity in one of their stakes
and/or along the foundation. Now, they are recommending that we apply
a new barrier for $600. I can imagine the previous application
wearing out. On the other hand, WE HAVE HAD NO SIGN OF TERMITES since
the original application.
Question: Do I do the re-treatment now for $600 and then keep paying
the annual fee? Or, do I continue paying the annual fee (which goes up
about 3% every year) and then do the re-treatment (at $700 or more) if
and when we see a problem?
If prices continue to increase about 3% per year, over the next ten
years:
-if we do the application now and then continue paying for the annual
contract, it will cost us about $1750
-if we continue annual inspections and don't find termites, we save
about $475
-if we continue annual inspections and eventually do the re-
application, it will cost us about $275 more
Thanks ...
