Currently, one of my sons is dealing with a squirrel that died in his 
wall. Besides the stink, flies and maggots, it's costing him several 
hundred dollars to get removed.

I had a couple of bat incidents in the past and while bats are generally 
harmless, rabies is endemic here and you cannot risk getting scratched 
by a bat.

I would make sure there are no openings where critters can get in your 
house.  That would mean all openings for ventilation should probably be 
less then a quarter inch.
