I have a small metal shed that I keep buiness supplies in. About a
month ago, I discovered that I had at least one mouse in there. Almost
all of my crates had some droppings in them. The two bottom crates
were clear, and the 3 crates with locking lids were clear. Everything
else had stuff in it. One of them had the live mouse, though it ran
away when I dropped the crate.
I removed everything from the shed, cleaned out everything, and
cleaned out the shed. There were two small gaps in the bottom of the
shed, so I put cement in them to close the holes. I don't think that
was how it enetered though since the bottom crates were clear. My dad
put up metal covers over the vents at the top of the shed.
I was sure every hole was closed before I put stuff back in. Yet, only
a week later, 3 of my crates have droppings in them again. I have been
using this shed since last October, and it was working well until this
mouse moved in.
I am looking for advice in how to prevent mice from getting in,
anything that might repel them, and how would be the best way to get
rid of them. If I put traps in with bait, will that end up attracting
even more of them? Or just catch them if they are already inside?
Most of my crates have a couple small holes beneath the handles. Too
small for a rat to get in, but obviously large enough for mice. Should
I replace the crates with locking lids that don't have any holes, or
can I block these holes with something that will deter them from
getting in? Any ideas for what I should use to block the holes? I can
tape something over the holes. I know they can chew through plastic,
and the crates are only plastic. But hopefully I can use something
that will deter them.
