For the most part hookworms are considered tropical pests, but there is
a Northern species that will invade the Southern US that does see
freezing temperatures. So hope central Texas gets cold this year. :)
Suzie, I don't think there is any insecticide that you can treat a yard
to kill them. I really don't know if treating the yard with a general
insecticide as you would with fleas would actually rid the yard of
hookworms or not. If there is a dog run of gravel ...bare ground...or
concrete you can treat with borates or salt brine mixtures, but both
solutions will kill any vegetation. And as you know cleaning up the poop
is really job one.
