My girlfriend is on the verge of getting her license to sell insurance
in the state of Massachusetts, and she has become a little spooked at
what she's read about the level of legal accountability that exists in
such a position, and potential legal action that can be taken if, for
example, something as simple as a clerical error is made during the
filing process. I happen to think that her fears are exaggerated and
that these cases are not as common as one might think. But English
isn't her native language and this has contributed to her feelings of
uneasiness, despite the fact that she's made steady progress in
banking in the last few years.
I would welcome any real-world information about exactly what level of
accountability an insurance agent assumes, and how common it is that
they would wind up having to face legal action. Her company has
invested quite a bit of training and preparation, not to mention a
more attractive salary, to prepare her for this move.
