For the longest time I used Mobil-1 due to convienence.
Fortunately, a local quick-change place recently starting stocking Amsoil.
Kinda strange, cause the business is promoted by Valvoline, yet the
independent owner also sells Amsoil, Mobil, and Castrol. Talking with the
owner, he said Valvoline is ok with him selling other brands of oil, but
the
only oil filter he sells is Valvoline. Valvoline's homepage doesn't say
much
about their filters, only their oil. But my guess is Valvoline filters are
comparable with most other reliable brands.
Mobil and Castrol are found at every Wal-Mart and many other Auto type
stores, whereas Amsoil is not easy to find. Several Amsoil dealers
posting
comments here state that a potential customer can always order Amsoil and
UPS will deliver. I'm not a marketing expert, but in this DIFM society
(Do-It-For-Me), most (95%) people want someone else to change their oil.
Drive in&out in the shortest amount of time. The two local Wal-Marts near
me
have 'em waiting in line.
Back to the marketing thing, seems to me that if one of u independent
Amsoil
dealers could figure out how to partner w/Wal-Mart, then Amsoil would be
as
much a household name as Mobil or Castrol. You would think Wal-Mart would
be
receptive to competition, anything to drive down their overhead and
increase
their profits.
