This is near where I grew up...
Except that it's really not in "northwestern" Illinois, but in west -
central Illinois...
IIRC notorious serial killer Richard Speck started his 1966 murder spree
in
nearby Monmouth, IL (birthplace of Wyatt Earp and home of Monmouth
College)...
This area is relatively isolated and very sparsely populated, such a crimi
could move around with relative ease, at least for awhile...
These days there is a big problem with meth labs, it's invaded even the
smallest towns. Plus which, the east - west Interstate 80 corrider close
by
is a major transit route for drugs...
